Campbell County court files and Kentucky background reports are different products

Campbell County case file

Use the Campbell County Circuit Court Clerk for cases handled by the local Circuit, Family and District courts. The clerk’s Newport office is the local route for identified case records and copies.

Kentucky AOC background report

Use the Kentucky Court of Justice background-check service when the task is a statewide Kentucky court-activity report. The AOC product draws from all 120 Kentucky counties but explicitly says it is not an official court record.

Federal criminal case

Use the federal court/PACER route when the case is federal. Kentucky’s state court background report does not include federal court records.

Call the Campbell clerk with the correct court division

  1. 01
Read the court name on the paperwork

The official Campbell County page lists the Circuit Court Clerk at 330 York Street, Newport, KY 41071, phone 859-292-6314. The published phone menu separates District Court and Circuit Court.

  2. 02
Give the case reference and approximate date

If you know the case number, use it. If not, provide the name and approximate year and ask which local search/copy method applies.

  3. 03
    Ask for the exact filing

A final judgment, sentencing order, dismissal or other named filing is more useful for a specific outcome question than a general statement that a case exists.

  4. 04
    State whether certification is required

Certification is a document requirement. Ask before ordering so the clerk can provide the correct copy rather than a research printout that the recipient will reject.

The statewide AOC report has a defined content and scope

AOC report feature What Kentucky publishes How to interpret it
Coverage State court activity from all 120 Kentucky counties, including traffic, misdemeanor and felony/circuit criminal case types. Broader than one Campbell County clerk search, but still Kentucky state-court data.
Fields May include county, case number, original/amended charge, disposition and charge/disposition dates. Useful for locating the local court file that supports the reported outcome.
Status The report states that it is “Not an Official Court Record.” For official proof, obtain the court record from the Circuit Court Clerk that owns the case.
Time depth Kentucky publishes at least five years for misdemeanor/traffic information and felony coverage back to 1978. A background report is not an unlimited historical archive of every record type.

A third-party Kentucky background request has an extra subject-notice step

AOC treats another-person request differently when a record is found

Kentucky’s background-check instructions say that when a third party requests a report on another person and a record is found, AOC notifies the subject and provides that person a copy. That makes the AOC process different from simply opening a public case docket. Use the AOC workflow as published rather than trying to recreate it with a local clerk name search.

Use the Campbell court record for official outcome proof

  • ✓
Locate the statewide report hit by county and case number.
  • ✓
Contact the Campbell Circuit Court Clerk when Campbell County is the originating court.
  • ✓
Request the disposition/order that answers the question, not an undefined “full criminal record.”
  • ✓
Ask for certification if the recipient requires official proof.
  • ✓
Keep state/federal boundaries explicit. Kentucky AOC does not establish absence of federal or out-of-state cases.

If something is wrong, correct the originating record

AOC report data issue

Kentucky explains that corrections can involve AOC and/or the originating Circuit Court Clerk. Start with the case number and the specific field that appears wrong.

Disposition missing or unclear

Get the Campbell court filing first. The source judgment/order is the best evidence for what the local case actually did.

Third-party report still wrong

After the authoritative court/AOC record is corrected, separately dispute any consumer reporting company that continues to show inaccurate information.
